Miley Cyrus Poised To 'Smash' Onto The Charts With "Wrecking Ball"

Miley Cyrus, despite her massive following of tweens, has yet to find herself atop the Billboard Hot 100 charts. That fact seems like it's got no choice but to change with the buzz she and her team have been able to create around her single "Wrecking Ball". The song is the second single off her album Bangerz, and set a record on Vevo upon its' release last week on September 9th; within just 24 hours, the video had 19.3 million plays. 8 days later, as of the time I'm writing this to you (around 7:30 PM EST on 09/17) the video has over 116 million streams on Vevo alone. Who knows what that play count would look like if it included an aggregate of everywhere the song is available for streaming.

So what's the video causing all this hoopla?

Today In History - Elton John performs a re-written "Candle in the Wind" at Princess Diana's Funeral

September 6th, 1997 - Elton John Plays a Personalized Version of "Candle in the Wind" at Princess Diana's Funeral

For those old enough to remember all of the coverage surrounding Princess Diana's death and her funeral, I think one would be hard pressed to find a moment that better encapsulated the world's sentiment than Sir Elton John's heart-breaking (in the best way possible) rendition of "Candle In The Wind". The song was originally written in 1973 as a tribute to Marilyn Monroe, another iconic woman taken from the world at far too young of on age. In honor of his performance 16 years ago today, and the two great women with whom he's honored using this song, here's a video of it. For more on the history of the song check out the History Channel feature on it here.

Hugh Laurie Sings The Blues and Then Takes Them On The Road.

Hugh Laurie is an English actor, comedian, writer, director and musician. Born in Oxford, England, he took piano lessons from the age of 6, and has stated that he has loved American music from the time he was a child. Best known for his role as Dr. Gregory House on House M.D., he has won 2 Golden Globes, 2 Screen Actors Guild awards, and has 6 Emmy nominations under his belt.

Laurie’s debut album entitled Let Them Talk was released in France and Germany in April of 2011. His latest album Didn’t It Rain was released in May in the UK. Laurie is planning a major tour of the UK to promote Didn’t It Rain. His US/Canadian tour for the album which releases August 6th starts this fall.

Both albums were produced by Joe Henry, and Didn’t It Rain was recorded in Los Angeles in January 2013. The Copper Bottom Band are Laurie’s supporting musicians, but Didn’t It Rain features special vocals by Gaby Moreno, Jean McClain and Taj Mahal, a Grammy-winning blues musician. New Orleans blues ran deep in Let Them Talk. For his second album, Laurie gears it more towards an American heartland blues, in order to feature a different sound. Laurie says that the further he goes into the realm of American blues, the more he falls in love with the songs and the people who play them.
